Upload Basemap Overlay Layer

This workflow allows you to upload a GeoTIFF file into the system to serve as either a basemap or an overlay layer in the map viewer. You will be guided through selecting the layer type, uploading the file, configuring its display settings (like name, sorting, and icon), assigning visibility permissions, and finally previewing the result on a map.

Step 1: Select Layer Type

The first step requires you to choose what type of layer you are creating.

  • Make a Selection: You will see a grid of option cards. Click on the card that represents the type of map layer you wish to process (e.g., Basemap or Overlay).
  • Confirmation: The selected card will highlight with a blue border and a light blue background to indicate it is active.

Step 2: Upload GEOTIFF File & Settings

Once the layer type is selected, you will upload your spatial data and configure how it will appear in the system.

  • Upload the File: In the dashed dropzone area, either drag and drop your .tif / .tiff file or click the "Choose GEOTIFF file…" button.
  • Map Layer Name: Enter a clear, descriptive name for your layer in this required text field. This is how it will appear to users in the map viewer.
  • Sort Order: Enter a number to determine where this layer sits in the list of available map layers. (Note: The higher the number, the lower the layer will appear in the list).
  • Map Layer Icon: Select an icon to represent your layer. You can use the "Search icons..." bar to find a specific symbol (e.g., 'map' or 'globe') and select it from the grid below. The chosen icon will appear in the preview box next to the title.

Step 3: Choose Basemap Visibility

After filling out the settings and clicking the submit button at the bottom of the form, a visibility modal will appear.

  • Set Access Level: Choose who can see this map layer by selecting one of the two options:
    • Public: Accessible to anyone on the internet.
    • Private: Only accessible to authorized, logged-in users.
  • Confirm: Once you have made your selection, click the blue "Confirm and Create" button to finalize the upload and create the layer.

Step 4: Preview Your Layer

After the system successfully processes the GeoTIFF and creates the layer, you will be taken to a final summary screen.

  • Map Preview: You will see a map container displaying a preview of your newly uploaded layer, allowing you to visually verify that the geographic data has been placed and rendered correctly.
